HOW TO PREPARE

ON THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION

  • A photo session can be hard work, make sure you come hydrated and after a good night of sleep. Have a good breakfast with proteins and complex carbohydrates.

  • Moisturise your skin with a light, water based moisturiser

  • Arrive with clean and dry hair.

  • Allow 10-15 min to park and ARRIVE ON TIME!

  • FOR MEN: Shave your beard in the morning. Be extra careful!

  • FOR WOMEN: If you have opted for the “in house” hair and makeup services, wear as little makeup as possible. My makeup artist or myself will prep you for your session.

THE DAY BEFORE THE SHOOT

  • Gently exfoliate your face and lips - a simple mixture of baking soda and water to make a paste works wonders. Follow with a light, water based moisturiser and lip balm.

  • Clean your glasses, wedding ring and jewels if you wear any

  • Cut and clean your nails

  • Gather your clothes and accessories and inspect for wrinkles. Iron if needed.

  • FOR WOMEN: If you want, this would be the right time to get a manicure. Make sure the colour you choose is suitable for all the outfits you have selected for the session. Tweeze eyebrows and treat other facial hair. If you have thick hair, wash and blow dry your hair the day before your photo shoot. You can tie it up in a loose bun overnight for more volume.

3 DAYS BEFORE THE SHOOT

  • If you dye your hair, touch up your roots

  • FOR MEN: Trim your facial hair (eyebrows, nose and beard if you have one)

7 DAYS+ BEFORE YOUR SHOOT

  • Fully plan and organize your shooting wardrobe and accessories.

  • Look for stains, missing buttons, anything that needs to be mended and fix!

  • Do Laundry. Remove lint, iron and press.

  • Refresh your haircut

  • If you dye your hair, this would be the right time to do so.

WHAT TO WEAR?

  • As a rule of thumb, fitted clothes are more photogenic than loose, baggy ones.

  • Look for fitted cuts that flatter your body type.

  • Avoid thin black and white stripes as they tend to create “moirés” or psychedelic optical patterns!

  • Although seldom visible, wearing shoes might positively affect your posture, so you may bring some for that purpose if you want. Look for shoes that match your outfits if you wish a full body picture.

  • It is always better to bring more clothes than not enough!

  • Make sure your clothes are pressed, not wrinkled. A handheld steam iron is available for touch ups at the studio, but this can take away some of our precious time

  • FOR WOMEN: Bring necessary underpinnings. Black bras look best under dark clothing, and nude bras are always better than white. Shape wear is awesome for concealing any wobbly bits.

  • If posing as a group, it is best to coordinate the colour scheme. Either opt for contrasting colours (dark grey, black and some vivid colours) or a palette of colours that will blend well together, like in the exemple below:
